Bilgola covers the secluded beach valley and the plateau above it, between Newport and Avalon Beach. It has some of the steepest residential land on the Beaches, with homes perched above the Bilgola Bends and large houses tucked into bushland down toward the sand. Beaches Blocked Drains is a referral service. We connect you with licensed local drain plumbers who service Bilgola, including Bilgola Beach and Bilgola Plateau.
Why Bilgola drains block
Slope. Sewer and stormwater lines often run steeply down the block, sometimes a long way, to reach the main or the street. Bends and junctions at the bottom collect debris. Some homes below road level may rely on a sewer pump.
Moving ground. Parts of the Bilgola slopes are clay-based and known for instability, and council has geotechnical controls in some areas. Rigid older pipes on moving ground crack at the joints.
Bush and big trees. Spotted gums, cabbage tree palms and garden trees supply roots that seek out any opened joint.
Stormwater. Steep catchments send water down fast in storms. Blocked pits and lines can push water into the ground where it is least wanted on a slope.
How it gets fixed
The plumbers we refer usually lead with a CCTV drain camera and a locator, because on a Bilgola block you want to know exactly where the fault is before anyone disturbs the slope. Jet blasting clears roots and silt. Pipe relining repairs cracked pipe from inside, with no trench on a hillside.
What it costs
A standard clear typically runs $150 to $400. Steep access and long runs can add time, so ask for it to be included in the quote. Camera and jetting together typically run $350 to $900. Relining typically costs $3,000 to $8,000 or more depending on length.
Frequently asked questions
Does a leaking drain matter on a steep Bilgola block?
It can. Water leaking from a broken pipe adds moisture to the slope. Getting leaks fixed promptly is sensible, and a geotechnical engineer can advise on site-specific risk.
Our sewer has a pump. What should we tell the plumber?
Mention the pump, any alarm, and whether the tank is full. The fault may be the pump rather than a blockage.
Is relining practical on very steep lines?
Often, yes. Relining works through existing access points and is commonly used where digging would be difficult.
